Wellcome Trust Four Year PhD Programme
The Cellular and Molecular Basis of Disease

Through a funding initiative by the Wellcome Trust, the University of Edinburgh, one of the UK’s leading institutions for biomedical research, has established a 4 year PhD Programme in The Cellular and Molecular Basis of Disease. The Programme, which has run successfully since 1996, provides broadly based research training and involves collaboration between the Colleges of Medicine & Veterinary Medicine and Science & Engineering.

Five studentships will be available in September 2008, to outstanding young science graduates wishing to pursue a career in biomedical research. The three themes of the Programme are Developmental Cell Biology, Genetics & Disease and Immunology & Infection. The initial year of training involves seminars, taught modules and short projects in research laboratories attached to each of the Programme themes. Students can then make an informed choice of their main PhD project and supervisor.
